SURPRISE!
My dear little Isis who is over a year old now, yelped and started screaming like a child. The other dogs started chasing her growling and nipping at her. We jumped up, turned on the light and tried to catch the dogs. We were able to get them put in their kennels, and caught Isis to find out what happened. She was shaking uncontrollably, and wouldn't open her mouth. My son noticed that the heater was no longer on, and lo and behold she had chewed on the extension cord!!!
Frightened, I wrapped her up in my jacket. I didn't want her to go into shock. So I had my oldest daughter look online to find out more about electrical shock in dogs. This was late Sunday night and our closest emergency vet was over an hour away. I tried to open her mouth to see if she had an burns, but she wouldn't let me open it. I of course thought the worst. My oldest daughter came back downstairs and told me that we needed to watch for coughing (they can get liquid in thier lungs and drown) and also to watch for shock. I had my son go and get some cheese, to see if she would try to eat it, I figured that was one way to check on her mouth. She readily ate it, actually scarfed it. I started laughing at her because of her comical look, she wanted more! We then tried to see if she would drink water. She did. She shook like she had been outside in sub degree temperatures for about 30-45 min. I held her close and we listened to her lungs all night. She was fine. In the picture, I showed her the cord and asked her if she remembered what she had done, she yipped and ran away from it. I of course had to laugh. MAYBE she learned her lesson. I know I did!!
