Way to close!!!

Last night it was particularly cold in our lower family room. We plugged in a heater. It didn't reach our feet when sitting on the couch, so we plugged in an extension cord. Our family started watching a movie, and the dogs were sitting around on the floor chewing on their bones. I have never had any problems with my dogs chewing on anything but their bones, so I never once felt I had to watch them, because this is a normal pastime at our house.
SURPRISE!
My dear little Isis who is over a year old now, yelped and started screaming like a child. The other dogs started chasing her growling and nipping at her. We jumped up, turned on the light and tried to catch the dogs. We were able to get them put in their kennels, and caught Isis to find out what happened. She was shaking uncontrollably, and wouldn't open her mouth. My son noticed that the heater was no longer on, and lo and behold she had chewed on the extension cord!!!

Frightened, I wrapped her up in my jacket. I didn't want her to go into shock. So I had my oldest daughter look online to find out more about electrical shock in dogs. This was late Sunday night and our closest emergency vet was over an hour away. I tried to open her mouth to see if she had an burns, but she wouldn't let me open it. I of course thought the worst. My oldest daughter came back downstairs and told me that we needed to watch for coughing (they can get liquid in thier lungs and drown) and also to watch for shock. I had my son go and get some cheese, to see if she would try to eat it, I figured that was one way to check on her mouth. She readily ate it, actually scarfed it. I started laughing at her because of her comical look, she wanted more! We then tried to see if she would drink water. She did. She shook like she had been outside in sub degree temperatures for about 30-45 min. I held her close and we listened to her lungs all night. She was fine. In the picture, I showed her the cord and asked her if she remembered what she had done, she yipped and ran away from it. I of course had to laugh. MAYBE she learned her lesson. I know I did!!

Butterfly Princess

I found this picture and it reminds me of my daughter.
Butterfly wings and all!

Name Contest!

We have three beautiful girls, one black/white (looks like she might be tri, with brown over the eyes) and two sable or mahogany. They are all three gorgeous. And yes I am bias, but I love my dogs!!! Anyhow, I have thought of two names, I love Egyptian names, and have therefore chose "Ebe" which means Wonderful, and "Nefertiti" which means Beautiful One. I need one more beautiful name for my babies, so I am asking for help. If you have a Egyptian name, please email me as I haven't thought of any name twists yet. And I need one more name, or I might just throw those ones out if you all can come up with a better one!! I have three $10 Petsmart Gift Cards I will give to the winners. I will post all the names on the blog that I recieve, and we can all vote on the best three names. I will keep the contest open until Jan 15th. Tell your friends, this could be fun! :). Here are the girls pictures, I wanted to put them in a little christmas sock that Santa brought for them, but their tummies are just too fat, kinda like Santa himself!! LOL. So instead I laid them on the bigger stockings. I look forward to hearing from you!

Updates

Sorry I haven't been updating on a daily basis. The little boy got the fading puppy syndrome last week and we had to attend to him 24/7. Sadly, even after all the care we gave him, we lost him on Sunday. It has been a hard week for us, as after you care for a little one round the clock you get emotionally attached to them.

Then with Christmas looming, I had to put on my Santa hat and get busy for Christmas for my 4 youngsters. Kenzie 15, Dakota 12, Skylar 9, and Sierra 5 were in full swing for decorating, cookie baking, shopping and making sure every last thing was ready for Santa. My two oldest were my elves and did a great job of helping Santa get all presents wrapped. We also adopted an older lady who lost her husband last month and shoveled her driveway each day. So, needless to say, the additional activities took over my time this last week.

Last night we had a huge blizzard, and the dogs wanted to go play in the snow. Here is Isis having a blast in the snow, and I like how the camera caught the snow falling.

Day three

Update on the little boy. The little boy was smaller than the girls when he was born, but wasn't gaining weight and he was severely dehydrated when I checked him this afternoon. I rushed him and mom to the vet, so he could have subQ fluids administered and also the vet tube fed him. He perked up and has been doing better. His sisters are twice his size, and was being pushed aside so he couldn't eat. So now he has his own box, own heating pad, and needs to be tube fed every 2 hours. Sweet little guy, he is so small! In the picture he is in my daughters hands, so you know how small he is!! He only weighs .5oz! It will be a long night, but I will do anything for my babies!

Day two

Day two with Cleo's cuties!!
So small at 5" long and about 1 1/2" wide!

Cleo's Babies are here!!!

Cleo had 5 babies!!! Yes 5!! Sadly we lost the first one, either she was stuck in the birth canal too long or her little lungs weren't fully developed. She was so beautiful and fully formed. She will be looked after by Anthony, so we are sad, but know she will be loved where she is.

Cleo had 4 girls, and one boy. Two black and white, and two that are dark brown. They could be sable like mom, or maybe stay dark brown. Anyway, they are all beautiful!!! Here are their pictures. Girl, Girl, Boy, Girl. I will continue to update their pictures weekly. Enjoy!!

Christmas Cat

Had to include a picture of our cat who got a pair of reindeer antlers. She wasn't thrilled about them, but it made for a great photo! LOL

Christmas Pics

Cleo's birthday was the 12th, so we took her to Petco and got her a Santa sweater! She looks sooooo cute in it! I told her she looked like one of the "Santa Baby" models and she just stared at me like "whatever mom". She is 2 years old now. Time flys so fast!! I remember when she was just a pup. She is now a well trained, beautiful girl who draws the attention of everyone when we go out! Can you tell I am a proud mama?? LOL

Cleopatras expecting

So the countdown is on for Cleo's litter. Her due date is 12/15. Her poor little belly is huge, so I am guessing she will have 4 puppies this time. The sire is Kenai, and I am very excited to see what we will get. I kept Isis out of her first breeding with Kenai, and she is a gorgeous example of the breed. I am hoping to be able to show Isis, Kenai and Cleo this year and get points on all of them!!

December 2008

I thought it might be fun to start blogging about our Papillons and what fun we have with them. Right now I have 5 paps. Two are from Kenmar Papillons, Kenai & Cleo (Thank You Carollyn and Helen!!!) and then my third, Isis is a child from the two of them. I will post pictures so you can learn more about them. Tiki is the papillon who saved my life after my husband died. I was only 31 with 4 small children and needed someone to talk to and to snuggle up with. She did a marvelous job and started me on my path to loving the breed. We also took in Harley within the last month, and have loved her like our own. She is a doll and fits in nicely with the group.
